Good common sense ideas for cooking this Thanksgiving, and all year long

There are many good ideas on how to save money this Thanksgiving. I'm pleased to have read this book at this time, just when I need it! Obviously Jill is an experienced chef as well as a great planner. Suggestions like using leftover mashed potatoes to thicken soups and stews is just of the great ideas that are in this book. Although this book is billed as a Thanksgiving book, you can use a lot of the simple common sense ideas for cooking all year long.

Not what I expected

The writers have a site that's promoted at the start and end of the book. They really don't have a lot of 'new' here, but rather stick to basic tips like 'Buy larger turkeys' as they are usually less expensive and don't cook the whole thing if you don't want leftovers, and recipes.
The book has some good tips that may be new to some people, especially those who are new to preparing and serving Thanksgiving dinner. I can see this book being a good choice for someone who is hosting for the first time. It would be a good 'how-to' primer with tips on when to serve dessert and the proper layout of a buffet table. Money saving tips seem to have taken a backseat to these tips however.
I liked the section on how to fix 'Boo Boos' like if your stuffing is too dry, or if you burn the dinner rolls, but they almost seemed out of place in the book.
Basic recipes and tips are good, and this again goes towards who this book would most benefit: new cooks and/or hosts of holiday dinners. Others may find the book less useful.
The recipes related to turkey leftovers are a nice addition, but nothing really new.
The format of the book doesn't flow well, so things like what to do with leftovers are followed by dessert, dip and main dish recipes in a seemingly random order. I found that disappointing, as I had to keep referring back to the Table of Contents.
This book could have benefited from a clear flow which included sections which were solely 'tips' and 'recipes'. There are helpful tips and basic recipes in this book, but the title: 'Thanksgiving On A Dime', is slightly misleading as I don't really see a lot of money-saving tips, which was what I expected from this book. Instead I found a mediocre book with lots of website promotion.

This creative book seems to have all kinds of great advice on how to cook a Thanksgiving meal......prep days before so you aren't stressed on the day. It says you don't need massive amounts of side dishes, and you can have a grocery store butcher cut it in half, so you aren't eating turkey til Christmas. If you are a seasoned cook, this probably isn't for you. BUT IT WOULD BE A GREAT GIFT TO A YOUNG OR INEXPERIENCED COOK that is going to make a meal on their own. In any case, I got a whole lot more out of it than expected. I enjoyed it.
